Four veterans of four different foreign wars will serve Saturday as Grand Marshals of the annual 4th of July boat parade in Plaquemine.

The boat parade begins down Bayou Plaquemine near the Parish Jail and is slated to arrive at the Water Front Park near the Lock by 3 p.m. Saturday to begin special ceremonies.

KRYSTAL Yush, a recent Teacher of the Year in Iberville Parish, competed last weekend in the U.S. Track and Field Championships’ hammer throw event.

Mayor Mark A. “Tony” Gulotta will seek additional funds from the parish government and from private donors to finance a spray park planned as an addition to City Park on Belleview Road.

State Fire Marshal Butch Browning last week issue a cease and desist order on all private burning because of the extremely dry conditions around the state.

Dow Chemical Company on Wednesday announced plans to close two units at the local plant in the third quarter of 2011.

The move will affect some 45 employees, but managers are  meeting with them individually about transfers to other parts of the local plant, Stacey Chaisson of Dow Public Affairs said.
