St. John and White Castle High garnered first-round state playoff football victories Friday night to continue into the regionals of postseason competition this week.
Meanwhile, Plaquemine High and neighboring District 8-A rivals Brusly and Port Allen High all fell in first round Class 3-A competition Friday. PHS lost to hosting Independence High 28-6, while Brusly fell by a narrow 22-21 score to visiting 8-3A rival St. James in a defensive struggle. Port Allen lost to hosting Rayville in a high-scoring 59-28 loss.
