Parish officials urged residents to take extreme precautions as Hurricane Gustave comes within landfall on Monday. Iberville Parish President J. Mitchell called for a mandatory evacuation of all mobile homes and residents living in low-lying areas in the parish.

Tryve Brackin has been named the new editor of the POST SOUTH newspaper announced Publisher Glenn Stifflemire. He has served as the sports editor for 31 years.
Brackin will oversee the editorial department at the newspaper as well as assist the new advertising sales personnel.

The Iberville Parish School System opened last Wednesday for 219 more students than it had on the first day of classes last year, Superintendent P. Edward Cancienne Jr. reported.
