Plaquemine High continued its winning ways as the top-ranked boys basketball team in Class 3-A by easily blasting Westbank neighbor Port Allen High 66-37 in their District 8-3A opener Friday night.

Coach Denny Wright’s top-ranked Green Devils romped to a 31-9 halftime lead, holding the hosting Pelicans to a mere two points in the second period and coasted from there to victory. The win boosted PHS to a 1-0 league start and marked the team’s 21-straight straight win and upped their season showing to an impressive 22-1.

Port Allen fell to a 0-2 start.

The Pels managed to cut into the Green Devil lead by four points in the third quarter, but PHS continued to roll with a 22-11 advantage in the final stanza.

Jeffrey Ricard led the way for PHS with 20 points, while Tre’veon Hawkins tallied 14. Jeremy Jenkins and Adonis Major hit for 10 points apiece, while Demarcus Veal added 6 points. Korbin Scott tallied 5 and Quintele Jackson scored a point.

Tyler Washington led the Pels with 14 points, while Devin Payne added 11. Marcus and L.J. Parker combined for 9 more PAHS points.

Port Allen won the JV game by a 50-30 score.
