Iberville Sheriff's deputies responding to a traffic accident on La. 1 arrested a Port Allen Woman on a 6th offense of driving while intoxicated, Chief Criminal Deputy Stephen Engolio said Monday.
Catherine G. Rills, 49, of 2022 Lobdell Highway, also was charged with following too close.
Engolio said Rills is accused of running into the back of a vehicle stopped at the red light on La. 1 near the Dow Chemical plant. The accident occurred on February 11. Deputies alleged that Rills appeared to be so confused that they could not administer parts of a field sobriety test, the chief deputy said. Though she passed an intoxilizer test, she admitted to taking a prescription medication, Engolio alleged, adding that a sample of her urine has been sent to the State Police lab for testing.
Rills was freed from the Iberville Parish Jail two days after her arrest on a $61,000 bond set by District Judge Alvin Batiste Jr., records showed.
The Louisiana State Police arrested James B. Hebert, 33, of Joseph Street, Plaquemine, on a third offense of driving while intoxicated, jail records showed. Hebert also was accused of driving under suspension from a previous DWI charge. He was free on a $9,500 bond.
