All three Iberville Parish boys’ basketball teams advanced to the second round of state round ball playoff competition Friday night as they captured victories.

Class 3-A second-seeded Plaquemine High routed 31st-seeded visitor John McDonogh High 56-28 behind a solid defensive effort and a trio of double-figure scorers led by Korbin Scott’s 16 points.

Class 1-A ninth-seeded East Iberville High defeated District 8-A rival and 24th-seeded Ascension CHS for the third time this season, taking a first-round playoff 65-53 victory in St. Gabriel. Seniors Donovan Richardson (20 points) and Mitch Johnson (14 pts.) led the way.

And Class 1-A tenth-seeded White Castle High edged out visiting 23rd-seeded Haynesville High by a 67-65 score to advance. Junior guard Ronald Martin poured in a season-high 36 points to guide the Bulldogs to the first-round victory.

Plaquemine will host 15th-seeded Iowa High Tuesday night. The visiting Yellow Jackets from Calcasieu Parish beat Rayne High Friday night 64-47 to advance to the regional level.

East Iberville must travel, but not far. The Tigers will visit the campus of Southern University Tuesday night to play the eighth-ranked Southern Lab Kittens in what looms as potentially a close and evenly matched regional contest. Lab beat 25th-seeded Crescent City Baptist 81-33 Friday night to advance.

Also traveling Tuesday night for the regional round will be the White Castle High Bulldogs. They hit the road to tangle with hosting seventh-seeded St. Mary’s High up in Natchitoches. That distance puts the 10th-seeded Castlemen at the biggest second-round disadvantage of the parish trio. The hosting St. Mary Tigers beat Hamilton Christian Friday night by a 62-52 score to advance.
