State Fire Marshal Butch Browning last week issue a cease and desist order on all private burning because of the extremely dry conditions around the state.

Private burning will be allowed only by permission of local fire departments or local governments, Browning said.

The ban will not apply to burns prescribed by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry and carried out by certified personnel, or by those who conduct prescribed burning as an accepted agricultural practice as defined by the Louisiana Right to Farm Law.
