Supriya Jindal, wife of Gov. Bobby Jindal, on Friday awarded Promethian Boards and other technology equipment to Dorseyville Elementary School's three third grade classes.

Donations from the AT&T Foundation and The Dow Chemical Company made the donation of the $16,000 worth of specialized equipment from the Supriya Jindal Foundation possible, said Kellie Duhon of the first lady's foundation.

Each classroom is receiving a computerized screen, a projector, four pens, wall mounting, speakers, ActiVotes software for the computer, installation, all cables, shipping, on-going training, pre-loaded flip charts on science and math created to state standards and a laptop computer for the teacher.

Jindal used the equipment to conduct a class in math and science for the school's 75 first graders.

“I created the Supriya Jindal Foundation for Louisiana's Children to harness the power of technology in Louisiana classrooms, and to emphasize the importance of science and math education,” Jindal said.

At Monday night's meeting, the Iberville Parish School Board approved a resolution giving Dow Chemical special recognition for its “steadfast support” of public education and the generosity of the company and its employees.

The resolution, presented by Superintendent P. Edward Cancienne Jr., cited the company as a “platinum member” of Jindal's foundation and its helping to provide the interactive whiteboard technology at Dorseyville.

Dow and its employees also were cited for donating gifts, funds and volunteer time to provide “a Christmas of joy” for more than 300 children in Iberville Parish.
