LEAP testing is a statewide testing that seeks to ensure that students master minimal skills in Math and English.  Since 2000, LEAP results have been used as the measuring tool that Louisiana uses to gauge the improvement of education in the state.  Results are defined as first time test-takers who met promotional standards in the spring of 2011.  Results are divided into five categories: mastery, basic, approaching basic and unsatisfactory.  Students have to pass LEAP, and meet other standards, to move to the fifth and ninth grades.
