SUNSHINE - A single-vehicle crash along River Road took the life of a 24-year-old Plaquemine man late Thursday, a spokesperson with State Police said.

Cedrick Smith was killed from injuries sustained in the accident near the Plaquemine/Sunshine Ferry landing on La. 75.

The vehicle was driven by Wilbert Pryer, 23, also of Plaquemine. Smith was a passenger in the car.

Speed is believed to be the cause of the accident, according to authorities. Pryer lost control of the 2013 Dodge Charger he was driving in a curve, veered off the road and hit a telephone pole at about 9 p.m.

Pryer sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Neither man was wearing a seat belt, State Police said.

A blood sample from Pryer was taken for analysis at the State Police Crime Lab.

Smith was a local rapper known as "CeddyBu."
