According to a Louisiana State Police report,shortly after 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on LA Hwy 75 north of LA Hwy 404 in Iberville Parish.
The crash occurred around 9 p.m. on Monday, April 17, and according to the LSP report, 56-year-old Darrell Spencer of Plaquemine contacted the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office and reported that he believed he struck an object near the side of the road
Deputies, along with Spencer, arrived on the scene to search the area but could not find anything that he may have struck.
On Wednesday, April 19, the body of 46-year-old Randy L. Romig of Plaquemine was found in a ditch on the side of the road.
Romig’s family was searching along Hwy 75 where they knew he may have been walking. Family members located Romig’s body and the Iberville Parish Coroner’s Office arrived on scene and pronounced Romig deceased.
The LSP report states that Romig was wearing dark-colored clothing the night of the crash walking northbound on 75. Spencer was driving northbound on Hwy 75 and struck Romig as he was walking along the highway.
Impairment on the part of Spencer is not suspected to have been a factor.
The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab assisted in the investigation.
