Iberville Parish 4-H program recently conducted a Full STEAM Ahead Healthy Living Workshop Series for local youth at the Iberville Extension Service from April 18 - 20.
The series featured lessons that combined science, technology, engineering, art, and math lessons with healthy living activities.
Participants practiced farm-to-table cooking by using produce from the 4-H community garden planted by 4-H members. The youth experienced reading nutrition labels, practiced knife safety skills, and discussed the role that pollinators play in cultivating food, according to Iberville 4-H Youth Development Agent Christina Zito Hebert.
“Healthy living came to life for the workshop participants,” Hebert said. “The students gained friends from across the parish as they practiced farm-to-table cooking, learned about food safety, and competed in fitness challenges.”
4-H’ers competed in relay races, an Instagram photography activity, participated in a yoga session, and competed in fitness games.
