The Women’s Elite Club, Inc., of Plaquemine presented seven debutantes during their 45th Debutante Cotillion held on June 17, 2017, at the White Castle Community Center. The theme of the event was "Women’s Elite Presents Their Garden of Elites.” The event was co-chaired by Elite Connie Ben Hamilton and Elite Nadine Carlin. The current president of the 68-year-old organization is Elite Sandra Jordan.

Kurisen Kerriaune De’Shae Thomas, daughter of Minister Michael and Josie Thomas of Addis reigned as queen of the cotillion.  Honored as maids were first maid Ariel Achantay Mellion, daughter of  Michael Mellion and  Tory Carter of White Castle;  second maid Angel Treshon Elzy, daughter of Terry and Angela Elzy of White Castle; third maid Shannon Leigh Wooding, daughter of  Shirley and Shelia Wooding of New Orleans; debutantes  Jewel Shabrie Watley, daughter of Kevin and Renee Watley of White Castle; Elana Kathryn Ricard, daughter of Jermaine Smith and Kimberly Ricard and granddaughter of Alfred Ricard, Jr. of Plaquemine;  Warneisha Michelle Mellion, daughter of  Warren Mellion and Wendy James of Plaquemine.

Serving as escorts were Stavious Thomas, son of Minister Michael and Josie Thomas; Michael Wendell Delone, son of Chante Delone; Daniel Edwards, son of Daniel Jones and Lisa Edwards; Edmond Collins, son of  Alethia Collins; Charles Joseph Harris, son of Charles Harris and Sharon Villia; Eric Carlin, Jr., son of  Eric Carlin, Sr. and  Diane;       Jacoby Martin, son of  Elliot and Joyce Martin.

Princesses were:  Meghann G. Williams, Carlace Alayna Thomas, Leigha Emani Russ, Marissa Kamyra Plant, and Laila Simone Hampton.

In following with the debutante tradition, Debutante Shannon Wooding received the Miss Congeniality Award and escort Eric Carlin, Jr. received the Mr. Esquire Award.
