White Castle Mayor Gerald Williams is trying to keep his citizens cool this summer after writing a grant for box fans.

“I’m always digging to find funding to help our community,” Williams said.  “What spurred it was the amount of deaths caused by heat for senior citizens during the summer in a study.  Therefore, I found the grant through Entergy, applied, and received funding to assist our elderly with fans.  Especially those that didn’t have an A/C unit.”

Williams also said that the Town of White Castle recently received a Keep Louisiana Beautiful grant to assist in projects dealing with cleanups for the town in the amount of $3,100.
