Sheriff Brett Stassi was among the law enforcement officials who helped raise $185,000 for the Unite for Our Heroes first responder fund telethon, held July 13 and 14.
The Capital Area First Responders Fund makes grants to firemen, police and other first responders who are injured on duty, and to their families if they are killed while protecting and serving their communities. The fund serves and eight-parish area around Baton Rouge, including Iberville.
Stassi and other law enforcement leaders worked the telethon, personally asking for donations to the fund. “These first responders endanger their lives every day trying to keep our communities and residents safe,” Sheriff Brett Stassi said. “The least we can do is provide financial help to them and their families when they are injured or killed in the line of duty.”
