Longtime Addis councilman Russell “Rusty” Parrish was arrested on a count of hit and run last weekend, according to reports.

According to authorities, a woman claims Parrish struck her with his vehicle before speeding away around 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 23 in the parking lot behind Taco Bell on La. 1 in Plaquemine.

The Addis Mayor pro-tem was called into the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office regarding the incident and he confirmed the encounter with the victim, according to the arrest report.

While being questioned by IPSO officials, Parrish claimed the victim “jumped onto his vehicle and that he had to remove her from it more than once”, according to a report in The Westside Journal.

Parrish then admits that the woman jumped onto the outside of the vehicle as he pulled away with the victim still on the vehicle.  Reports state that Parrish did see her fall from the vehicle before fleeing the scene to return to his Addis residence.

Parrish, of 7723 First St. in Addis, was taken into custody and booked into Iberville Parish Jail for hit and run.  He was then released on a $10,000 bond.

According to The Westside Journal, Parrish is “the longest serving member of the Addis Town Council and has held office for 28 consecutive years.”

On the arrest, Iberville Sheriff Brett Stassi said, “Sometimes good people make bad decisions.”
