Over 1,000 locals young and old gathered en masse on Railroad Ave. in Plaquemine recently to celebrate the time-honored tradition of cruising up and down the avenue. In the past, locals would meet in their cars, crank some tunes and drive through downtown Plaquemine.
This tradition eventually stopped, however, but one frequent practitioner of this pasttime, Frank Allemond, felt the need to cruise again. Allemond decided to step up and get the ball rolling for the 1st Annual Railroad Ave. Reunion Cruise held in Plaquemine on Sunday, July 16.
The event provided the opportunity for friends old and new to hop in their classic and modern cars and enjoy a summer Sunday on the road.
This event featured a car show, Poker Run for Delma Daigle, and live music from The Avenue Band and DJ Rick Prejean. Allemond said he already has plans for the 2nd Annual Reunion Cruise.
“It was wonderful to see old faces and reminisce about the good old days, when life was simple,” Allemond said. “Next year it will be bigger and better.”
Allemond would like to thank Brian Blanchard for the use of the Hop-N-Shop parking lot, Timmy Repp, Ron Varden, Terry Granier and Mike Johnson of The Avenue Band, Swamp Neck Rod Car Club and all of the other volunteers for donating their time.
