Hunter Monismith of White Castle, Katelyn Carsen of Denham Springs, and Morgan Fruge of Jennings recently traveled to participate in the National Junior Angus Show held July 9-15 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Monismith and Carsen competed in the National Junior Angus Showmanship Contest.  During the contest, 45 junior members from across the country competed for the champion showman title in the 51st annual event.

According to an American Angus Association report, three judges evaluated the juniors on their skills while handling an animal, their ability to follow instructions, and evidence of courtesy and sportsmanship in the showring. This year’s showmanship judges were:  Jon Davis of Gallipolis, Ohio; Rick Blanchard of Firebaugh, Calif.; and Amanda Raithel of Falls City, Neb.

Iberville native Monismith also competed in the Chef’s Challenge at the All-American Certified Angus Beef Cook-Off, along with Fruge of Jennings.  The event was sponsored by the American Angus Auxiliary.

Monismith and Fruge took home third place in the cooking competition out of the 36 teams that participated in the event.
