Anacoco to hold at pool level

Those who live along Vernon Lake and those who use it for fishing or other recreation are advised the lake level will soon be lowered to allow a closer look at the dam.

Concerns about the structure in the wake of the heavy rains associated with Hurricane Harvey in late August are prompting the drawdown.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced the pending drawdown on Wednesday.

In order to adequately assess the complete extent of the damage to the dam, the lake will need to be significantly lowered below pool stage, DOTD said.

The extent and duration of the drawdown are not known at this time. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

Anacoco Lake, located downstream of Vernon Lake, is near pool stage. The intent is to maintain Anacoco Lake near pool stage while Vernon Lake is under the drawdown.
