Plaquemine Bank and Trust Company celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2018 and has exciting events and activities planned throughout the year.
2018 marks the 31st annual Art Alert Art Show and this community event will take place at the bank on Wednesday, April 18, 2018.
Stephen Panepinto, Chairman of the Board, President & CEO said, “We invite the community to visit us on April 18th and see the collection of fine art our residents have submitted and share on display. It amazes us each year the amount of talent in Plaquemine, Iberville and West Baton Rouge Parishes.
Plaquemine Bank issued its “Calling for Artists” noting the Art Alert Art Show is open to all natives and residents of Iberville and West Baton Rouge Parishes.
The art show is open to children under 10 years of age; children 10 - 13 years of age; young adults 14 - 18 years of age; and adults 18+ (including both professional and non-professional artists.)
Each artist in the adult category may enter a maximum of two pieces, which have not been previously entered in this contest, in any two dimensional format. Artists under 18 years of age may enter only one piece which has not been previously entered in this contest.
First, Second and Third Place prizes of $100, $50 and $30 respectively, will be awarded in each category. Those receiving Honorable Mention and Bankers Choice awards will receive $15 each
Panepinto added, “Our 2018 judges, for the 31st annual Art Alert Art Show, will be Rodneyna Hart and Judi Betts,” he continued, “They have both served as judges before and we are pleased and honored to have them join us this year when we celebrate our 50th anniversary.
Rodneyna Hart is the Exhibitions Manager at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum as well as the Curator and Art Manager for The Healthcare Gallery.
Hart has worked as the Exhibit Coordinator at The Baton Rouge Gallery, Preparator at The LSU Museum of Art, Co-Curator of the Prospect 3+BR Invitational, is a member of the Louisiana State Arts Council and serves on the advisory board of Baton Rouge Community College Art Department.
Through her volunteer, administrative, preparatory and curatorial work, and achievements as an artist, Rodneyna Hart has been instrumental in the growth of the local contemporary art community.
Judi Betts has attained an international reputation for her transparent watercolor paintings. Her paintings have won well over 100 awards in major competitions including The National Academy of Design, American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society and Watercolor USA.
Most recently the American Watercolor Society awarded her the Margaret Martin Memorial Award during its 151st Exhibition. Her painting “Stars and Stripes” (flowers) was selected from among 6,500 and was one of 25 featured in the April 2018 edition of Watercolor Artist magazine to commemorate its 25th anniversary.
Invitational exhibitions include State of the Art, Taiwan Art Education Institute, Federation of Canadian Artists, Walt Disney’s EPCOT Center, Allied Artists of America at the Butler Institute, Pogan Galleries (CA), “Masters of Watercolor,” and Selected Artists of the National Arts Club.
Judi was selected for a special award for “Contributions to the medium of Watercolor” by Watercolor USA Honor Society and in 2012 received their Lifetime Achievement Award, their highest honor.
Betts is the author of the award winning books WATERCOLOR...Let’s Think About It!, now in its fifth printing) and PAINTING...a QUEST toward XTRAORD!NARY (5 awards) and is also a contributor to many prominent art magazines.
