On Thursday, May 10, the 4-H Awards Day was held at the Bastrop Fairgrounds. To qualify for the day, members either had to complete a project book or be in a Project Club. The Project Clubs for Morehouse include shooting sports, livestock and horse club. This year 135 members qualified for Awards Day, an increase from 90 last year. Unfortunately, only about 100 students participated along with 25 adult volunteers. Everyone enjoyed stations ran by the Jr. Leaders that included slime, moon sand, rob the nest, cloning and ice cream. Every participant rotated through the stations and were allowed to take home their creations. For lunch, everyone enjoyed Johnny’s Pizza, while mingling amongst themselves. Once lunch was over, we started the Awards Ceremony. To start things off, we had a PowerPoint slideshow of our graduating senior, Bailey W. She graduated last Thursday from Beekman Charter School as the Salutatorian. Everyone was given awards for their participation in 4-H events during the entire year. Some 300 certificates, ribbons and medals were given out during the ceremony. Also during the Awards Ceremony, club leaders, shooting sports instructors, horse club leaders and other important adult volunteers were recognized for their contributions this year. Morehouse Parish 4-H would like to congratulate every member for their efforts and contributions this year in 4-H. We would also like to thank the junior and adult volunteers that make this program available to our community. And lastly we would like to thank the Bastrop Fairgrounds, Mrs. Joann and Ms. Tina for their efforts setting up and taking down so that we could use the Fairgrounds for our Awards Day.
