Plaquemine Green Devils dominated their first round matchup against No. 27 seed Cecilia last Friday to advance to the second round of the LHSAA 4A playoffs.

The Devils routed the visiting team 65-46, but the final score does not quite reflect how close the game really was.

Cecilia kept pace with a high-powered Devil offense by the end of the first with the score tied 12-12.  The Green Devils gave themselves a little breathing room at the half, but not by much.  PHS led Cecilia 29-21 after two quarters.

It was not until there were about two minutes remaining in the third quarter when PHS stepped on the gas pedal.  Plaquemine was up by six points, 36-30, near the end of the third.  In two minutes time, the Devils put up ten more points to open the fourth quarter with a 46-30 lead.

PHS didn’t look back in the fourth to bring the game to a final 65-46 victory.

Keandre Randall was the scoring leader for the Green Devils with 18 points, followed by A.J. Riley with 17, Darius Jackson with 13 and Henry Spriggs with five.

Jackson led with five assists in the win, followed by Herb Thomas and Wayne Toussant each with three.  Jackson also led with 10 rebounds, followed by Riley with six and Randall, Trajan Butler and Toussant each with four.

The Devils advanced to round two of the playoffs where they will host No. 11 seed LaGrange Monday, Feb. 27.
