The No. 4 seed White Castle Bulldogs have been rolling in the 1A playoffs. After ending the regular season with a 10-2 record in district play, good enough for second overall, WCHS has officially reached the Quarterfinals.
The Bulldogs opened round one at home last week against No. 29 seed D’Arbonne Woods Charter. WCHS nearly broke triple digits in the win with a final score of 96-46.
WCHS then advanced to round two of the LHSAA playoffs for another home game, this time against No. 13 seed Grand Lake. Grand Lake had just come off a two-point victory over No. 20 Logansport on Friday and were looking for a way to get past the high-powered Bulldog offense.
Head coach Troy Green and his Bulldog squad would see otherwise as WCHS came out roaring in their 77-46 round two victory.
The biggest threat to Grand Lake was the talented Bulldog defense. WCHS held the visiting team scoreless for the first six minutes of the game.
White Castle led GL 14-4 after the first quarter and only built on their lead throughout the last three. They led 36-18 at the half and 52-31 after three.
The Bulldogs still have a tough road ahead, however, as they will host No. 12 seed Haynesville on Friday, March 3. Haynesville is the lowest remaining seed in the 1A bracket. Haynesville has just come off an upset victory over No. 5 Delhi on the road on Monday, 72-68.
Teams still alive in 1A are: No. 1 Sicily Island, No. 2 Lincoln Prep, No. 3 Delhi Charter, No. 6 Tensas, No. 8 Centerville and No. 10 North Central. With a quarterfinal victory, WCHS will advance to take on the winner between No. 1 Sicily Island and No. 8 Centerville
