Plaquemine Green Devils won their final two district games of the regular season against lowly Tara High in blowout fashion this week.

They opened the series on Tuesday which resulted in a 15-0 shutout victory for the Green Devils after  three innings.

PHS racked up 14 runs in the first inning and one in the bottom of the third while blanking the visiting Trojans through all three.

Gage Vidrine was the team’s RBI leader, along with Herman Christophe, with three RBIs a piece.  Joe Hamilton followed with two.

Reid Griffon and Jacob Hebert split pitching duties in the win.  Griffon earned a pair of strikeouts and Hebert earned one.

Following the team’s third district victory of the season, PHS hosted Vandebilt Catholic of Houma in a non-district game that came down to the wire after eight innings.

PHS took an early 2-0 lead after the first inning before both teams blanked the second and third innings.  Vandebilt notched a run in the fourth and one in the sixth.  Each team blanked the seventh inning and PHS held Vandebilt scoreless in the top of the eighth.

Green Devil Dewayne Askins earned a walk-off in the bottom of the eighth to bring in the winning run.

Askins and Albert Deville each racked up two hits in the win and Luke Graves earned one RBI.  Gianni Berthelot and Michael Sproles split duties on the mound and each earned a pair of strikeouts.

The Devils looked to close out their district journey on Thursday when they hit the road to take on Tara, and pulled out a 15-4 victory.

The Devils ended the regular season with a 4-4 district record in third place behind co-leaders Livonia and St. Michael at 7-1.

PHS will close out their regular season at home against neighboring rival St. John on Friday before they await their seeding in the LHSAA 4A playoffs.
