Time to apply for USDA assistance on cropland/pasture
According to NRCS District Conservationist Jerry Hall, now is the time for crop and livestock agriculture producers in Iberville and West Baton Rouge Parishes to sign-up for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program.
EQIP is a conservation program authorized under the 2008 Farm Bill. The deadline to apply for the first ranking period of FY2012 has been set for December 30, 2011, although applications are continuously accepted after that date for additional funding periods.
EQIP provides financial assistance to livestock and cropland producers to assist with installation of conservation practices such as limestone pads at gate areas and around water troughs, cross-fences, pipelines, grade stabilization structures on sugarcane cropland, precision application of fertilizers on cropland, reduced tillage residue management, and many other practices not mentioned here.
