1. The Primetime Emmy Awards are Sunday. Check out the official Emmy website to see the latest news, list of nominees and more. The broadcast begins at 7 p.m. EDT on ABC.

2. Among the new movies opening this week are “Dredd 3D,” an R sci-fi thriller; “End of Watch,” an R crime drama starring Jake Gyllenhaal; “House at the End of the Street,” a PG-13 horror flick; and “Trouble with the Curve,” a PG-13 drama starring Clint Eastwood.

3. Saturday kicks off Banned Books Week. Libraries across the country are observing the day by celebrating our freedom to read what we want. Check out for more information, and contact your local library or bookstore for event information.

4. Saturday is Hobbit Day, a day that’s also part of Tolkien Week. Hobbit Day commemorates the birthdays of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins. Some libraries and bookstores will be holding events, or plan your own Hobbit birthday bash!

5. There is a lot of sports action this weekend: NASCAR’s Chase, NFL football, college football, baseball, soccer and more. Check your newspaper for TV times.
