WHITE CASTLE – White Castle High School used a quick start to push past St. John of Plaquemine 64-46 on Monday night in District 9-1A play at WCHS' gym.

The Lady Bulldogs (15-12, 6-2), under coach Tammy Washington-Pierce, also defeated Ascension Catholic (11-15, 2-6) 78-52 on Friday night and are No. 9 in unofficial Class 1A power rankings. White Castle traveled to LSWA No. 1 ranked West St. John (24-1, 8-0) on Tuesday night and wrap up the regular season hosting East Iberville (15-13, 6-2) on Friday night for second place. The Lady Tigers edged White Castle 51-50 earlier in the season.

"I think right now, we are playing the best ball we have played all year," Washington-Pierce said. "After a couple of losses, we took time to try and fix a few hiccups we had. We have since became more focused and relaxed, and I told them to try and just have fun and let the game come to them. This week will be a test of what's to come once we get into the state playoffs but overall, I have been okay with how we have been finishing games."

The Lady Eagles (9-16, 2-6), under coach Chase Mancuso, also fell to West St. John 82-29 on Friday night and are No. 28 in unofficial power rankings. St. John hosted East Iberville on Tuesday before wrapping up the regular season at Ascension Christian on Friday night.

"We need to finish the season strong to position ourselves for the best possible matchup in the first round," Mancuso said. "We have made tremendous improvements throughout the season and the girls have continued to fight. They know it is a building process."

White Castle led 19-7 going into the second quarter over St. John and 29-18 at the half before taking a 44-29 lead into the fourth.

Erica Jones led White Castle with a game-high 25 points and 11 rebounds. Skylar O'Bear added 15 points, 12 assists, seven rebounds and three steals and Shylar O'Bear had 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Alaina Williams added six, Blessing Franklin and Megan Overstreet each four and Brooklyn Falcon and Ashanti Knight each two.

Jessie Brown led the Lady Eagles with 23 points. Kamryn Theriot added eight, Payton Passantino five, Shelbi Strickland three, Samantha Rivet three and Keri Yarbrough and Jayme Rivet each two.

White Castle led 19-9 going into the second quarter and 38-21 at the half over Ascension Catholic before taking a 54-32 lead heading into the fourth.

Shylar O'Bear led the Lady Bulldogs with 23 points, seven rebounds, six steals and five assists. Williams added 17 points and 16 rebounds, while Jones provided 16 points and 10 rebounds and Skylar O'Bear had 14 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. Franklin had eight, Falcon two and Knight and Shane'Quekia Young one.

Jordynn Brown led Ascension Catholic with 24 points. Kyra Jones added 12 and Megan Brooks eight.

West St. John jumped out to a 22-5 lead over St. John and extended it to 47-10 at the half before taking a 61-24 lead into the fourth.

Strickland led the Lady Eagles with 11 points. Brown added nine, Theriot seven and Yarbrough two.

Jayln Gordon led the Lady Rams with a game-high 26 points. Maya Trench added 16 and Jajuan Nicholas six.
