DONALDSONVILLE – St. John the Evangelist High School held Ascension Catholic hitless and added two solo home runs to claim a 3-0 District 9-1A shutout victory on Tuesday afternoon at the South Louisiana State Fairgrounds and move into sole possession of first-place in league standings.

The Lady Eagles (16-9, 6-0), under coach Oliver "Crickett" Crockett, also defeated East Iberville 15-0 and 16-0 in a doubleheader Thursday before taking two games over Grant 5-1 and 7-1 and crushing Ascension Christian 19-2 on Monday. St. John traveled to White Castle Wednesday before hosting West St. John Tuesday and wrapping up district play Thursday against Ascension Catholic.

"I thought we played very well today," Crockett said. "Early on, we were able to do some things to get a run in. I thought that was really big for us to stretch it out to three. That gave us a little breathing room.

"This win is big for us because for 1A, they are in the top five in the state. We still have a way to go and just have to be focused on ourselves."

Kamryn Theriot (12-4) earned the win throwing a no-hitter while walking three and striking out one over seven innings. Theriot also was 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and RBI.

"She did a great job in the circle," Crockett said. "She located very well and threw hard. She did the things she needs to do and was the leader for us today."

Victoria Weaver (2-2, two runs, stolen base) and Jessie Brown (1-3) each hit solo home runs for the Lady Eagles.

Julia Beck took the loss for Ascension Catholic (16-4, 4-1) allowing four hits over seven innings while striking out nine and walking one.

Theriot lined an RBI-double to centerfield in the top of the third to drive in Weaver and put the Lady Eagles ahead 1-0.

St. John shortstop Shelbi Strickland snagged three line drives to help the cause beginning in the third.

Weaver dropped a hit in front of right in the fifth and stole second but was left stranded. Her two-out solo home run in the seventh floated over the right center fence into a stand of live oaks.

Brown left no doubt with her solo shot to a straight away peanut gallery in centerfield in the sixth.

Strickland had a web gem in the fifth corralling a liner and Brown fielded two fly balls in center in the seventh.

Kyndal Guillory got the win in the circle against Ascension Christian (10-8, 2-4). Payton Passantino was 3-for-3, while Samantha Rivet 2-for-3 with a double and Brown was 1-for-2 with a home run.
