EDGARD – White Castle High School's boys track team won four events and placed second in nine to claim the District 9-1A crown at West St. John on Thursday.
The Bulldogs, under coach Devyn Baker, scored 169 points for first place ahead of Ascension Catholic (131), East Iberville (88), West St. John (88), St. John (45) and Ascension Christian (14).
On the girls side, Ascension Catholic won the team title with 165 points followed by East Iberville (138), White Castle (93), West St. John (38), Ascension Christian (22) and St. John (21).
The top four finishers in each event advance to the regional meet at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
White Castle's Robert Franklin won the triple jump with a leap of 44-3 3/4 and was second in the long jump clearing 20-3 and the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.39.
Tyrie Lang won the 100 meter dash in 11.60 and Moses Young won the 400 with a time of 53.03. The 4x200 meter relay team of Lang, Franklin, Jacory Jones and Chris Major also won in 1:31.89.
Jones was second in both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles with times of 16.08 and 43.40. Curtis Jones was second in the shot put with a throw of 43 feet.
Kolby Sparrow placed second in the pole vault clearing 8-6 and was third in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs with times of 5:35.46 and 13:17.23.
Byron Pierre placed second in the javelin with a throw of 143-9, third in the triple jump clearing 40-1 1/2 and fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18-7 3/4.
Jacory Washington placed second in the 400 with a time of 54.55 and the 4x400 meter relay team of Young, Washington, Tydious Lang and Harold Zachary was second in 3:44.77.
Zachary was third in the pole vault clearing 8-6 and fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:21.58. Lang was third in the 800 finishing in 2:09.22.
Gregory Jordan placed second in the shot put with a throw of 38-5, while Daryl Young was fourth in the 100 finishing in 11.83 and Bandon Foster placed fourth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:47.06.
East Iberville's Braylon Dailey won both the high jump (5-8) and shot put (43-9) and was second in the discuss with a throw of 101-8 1/2.
Tony Westley won both the 110 and 300 hurdles finishing in 16.02 and 42.89 respectively. The 4x400 meter relay team of Westley, Jayden Redditt, Lamont Kerr and Kris Grace also won with a time of 3:41.61.
Redditt was second in the high jump with a leap of 5-6 and the 4x100 meter relay team of Westley, Kerr, Quantae Johnson and Javonte Sherman placed second in 45.24. Johnson also was third in the 110 hurdles finishing in 17.41.
St. John's Devin Allen won the discuss with a throw of 117-1 1/2. The 4x100 meter relay team of Benjamin Poirrier, Hayden Hemenway, Brandon Noel and Gavin Primeaux placed third in 45.26 and Nick Lefebvre was third in the javelin with a throw of 139-4.
Poirrier was fourth in both the triple jump (39-2 1/2) and 300 hurdles (44.49), while Hemenway placed fourth in the 400 with a time of 55.40. John Romig was fourth in the shot put clearing 38-1 and Koby Langlois took fourth in the discuss with a throw of 87-3 3/4.
On the girls side, East Iberville's Keionne Octave placed first in the 100 hurdles (18.37), 200 (26.56) and 400 (1:01.44) and was second in the 100 with a time of 13.33.
Ja'Laycia Mills won the shot put with a throw of 30-9 and Kristianna Williams won the high jump clearing 4-6.
Kirstein Oubre placed second in the javelin (96-10) and third in the high jump (4-0), while Taylor Green was second in the triple jump (25-11) and third in the 300 hurdles (1:06.78).
Nadia Rodriquez placed second in the shot put clearing 28 feet and all three relay teams made up of Green, Oubre, Rolisha Handley, Jasmine Mosby, Jasmine Williams, Kasheena Bryant and Brandy Dunbar placed third with times of 56.90, 1:59.77 and 5:10.63.
Handley was third in the 800 (2:50.59) and fourth in the 400 (1:07.48) while Mosby was fourth in the 800 (2:56.54) and Williams fourth in the 3,200 (18:19.39).
White Castle's Skylar O'Bear won the triple jump with a leap of 30-10 1/2 and was third in the long jump clearing 14 1/4.
The 400 and 800 meter relay teams consisting of O'Bear, Ariel Bell, Ashanti Knight and Shylar O'Bear each won finishing in 52.64 and 1:50.63 respectively.
Bell won the 100 in 13.29 and was third in the 200 crossing in 28.03, while Knight placed second in the 200 with a time of 27.87 and third in the 100 finishing in 13.45.
Amaria Wilson was second in the 1,600 finishing in 6:38.21 and the 1,600 meter relay team of Wilson, Shylar O'Bear, Kennesha Green and I'Neka Martin placed second in 4:52.44. O'Bear also placed fourth in the shot put clearing 26-4.
St. John's Keri Yarbrough won the discuss with a throw of 98-10 and Alana Blanchard placed second in the long jump clearing 14 3/4.
