BATON ROUGE – Plaquemine’s girls track team placed third in overall team standings at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association State Track and Field Meet at Bernie Moore Stadium on Saturday.

The Lady Green Devils, under coach Peter Villia, placed in six events and scored 52 points. St. Louis won the team title with 90 points followed by McDonogh #35 with 60 points.

“We got a chance to show our talent and that is all I wanted for the kids,” Villia said. “We had a good year and our expectations were high but we had a lot of injuries. It is kind of hard when you are dealing with that and the only thing that heals them is time and rest.”

Alissa Williams won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.80 and teammate Tori Williams placed third in 11.89. The cousins also joined Myiesha Bell and Kiffani Young to place second in the 4x200 meter relay crossing in 1:42.78.

“I just wanted to go out there and do my best because last year I didn’t place at all,” Alissa Williams said. “We push each other a lot in practice and she has been beating me all year long. I am just so happy.”

Williams also placed second in the 200 finishing in 24.51. 

Jamira Russ was second in the discus throw with a hurl of 128-2 just ahead of Asia Nelson’s third place throw of 114-1.

Destiny Johnson placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 34-4 ¼ and was sixth in the high jump clearing 4-8.

Marissa Batiste took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 16-7 ½ and Nariko Gillis was sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:33.54

Hakeem Deggs placed fourth in the boys’ 200-meter dash finishing in 22.07.

Plaquemine placed 29th in boys’ standings with four points. Edna Karr won the team title with 64 points followed by Huntington (37) and St. Augustine (36).
