SUNSHINE - A man's body was found Friday afternoon along the Mississippi River, about half a mile south of the Plaquemine ferry landing.

The dead body has been identified as 31-year-old Marcus Franklin.

An autopsy found the man was stabbed.

A person walking along the levee discovered the body around 1:15 p.m., according to Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi.

Franklin, of Baton Rouge, went missing about a week ago.

Earlier this week, a car tied to Franklin was found severely burned in Ascension Parish, according to Stassi.

Baton Rouge Police said he was last seen by his family on Nov. 30, 2013 and a missing person's report was filed Dec. 2.

Investigators are treating the case like a homicide and have asked the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office and the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office to assist with the investigation.

Franklin was from the Glen Oaks area in Baton Rouge.
