BATON ROUGE - Louisiana Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne is announcing Louisiana’s first Mardi Gras tourism campaign, a series of print and interactive Web advertisements aimed at informing out-of-state visitors that the major Louisiana celebration is more than one day in one city.
The ads, which are part of Dardenne’s 2014 Only in Louisiana tourism theme, run through March 2.
They showcase Carnival festivities throughout the state, from traditional parades and Mardi Gras courirs to family- and even pet-centered celebrations.
“Louisiana has more than 400 festivals and Mardi Gras is the largest and most famous,” Dardenne said. “We want to make sure people understand the different ways they can experience it throughout the state. This is the perfect year to promote Mardi Gras because it falls late enough for us to advertise after the holidays but with enough advance notice so people can still make plans.”
The ads - created by Trumpet, a New Orleans-based advertising firm under contract with the Louisiana Office of Tourism - will run in Texas in the Austin, Beaumont, Dallas, Houston and Tyler-Longview markets, Jackson and Hattiesburg in Mississippi, Little Rock, Ark., Memphis, Tenn. and Oklahoma City.
