PLAQUEMINE - Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre’s Ballet for Children program will bring two free performances of Journey to the Emerald City: Healthy Stops and Healthy Swaps to Iberville Parish on Wednesday, June 25.

The 10 a.m. performance will be held at the MSA-West Performing Arts Center located at 57955 St. Lewis Road in Plaquemine and the 2 p.m. performance will be held in the White Castle High School cafeteria located at 32695 Graham Street in White Castle.

Journey to the Emerald City: Healthy Stops and Healthy Swaps brings Cajun Marie out of Louisiana and into the magical land of OZ as familiar characters such as Dorothy, Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow and Tin Man introduce students to dance and nutrition through humorous dialogue woven between original choreography.

Ballet for Children is designed for elementary-age children and includes an audience participation portion complete with instruction on ballet exercises, terms and fun facts.

These summer performances are sponsored in part by the Iberville Parish Library, Iberville Parish School Board and White Castle High School.

Ballet for Children dancers have danced for local schools and libraries for more than 20 years and performed for more than 50,000 young people.

The Ballet for Children group’s fast paced variety of music, different dance types including ballet, jazz, modern dance, character dance, and even pantomime, the quick costume changes and lively narration captivates young audiences, leaving them dancing out of the auditorium with excitement.
