Six athletes from three Iberville Parish schools competed in the recently held annual Red Stick Bowl, in which the Rattlers defeated the Black Knights in a 28-21 tilt.
Gavin Landry, Collin Crockett and Damicah Carter all found a spot on the Rattlers. Landry and Crockett are both seniors at St. John High School in Plaquemine. Landry played defensive back while Crockett played tight end.
Carter, a senior at White Castle High School, played defensive lineman.
Three Plaquemine High players found a spot on the Black Knights, which was coached by PHS head coach Paul Distefano. Matthew Zito of Plaquemine also served as special teams/defensive line coach.
Senior standout Austin Mitchell played quarterback for the Black Knights and was joined on the offense by three of his regular season teammates.
Tyler Wesley served as wide receiver for the Black Knights and Traylon O’Bear played offensive line.
“It was a great game, very competitive,” coach Paul Distefano said. “I don’t look back on any regrets. It’s been a great experience. My kids had a great attitude all week and overall just a great experience.”
