The court date for the 13-year-old suspect in the Alyssa Neitz case was postponed on Thursday at the 4th Judicial District Juvenile Court in Monroe. The trial has been rescheduled for June 21.
Protesters stood outside of Green Oaks Detention Center supporting Alyssa, a Sterlington High School student who was shot and killed on Feb. 23. Alyssa's mother, Jennifer Neitz, denied a plea bargain offered by the District Attorney's office. The plea bargain was for the suspect to serve five years of probation.
"We are just out here to show our love and support for Alyssa," Neitz said at the protest. "We don't want the suspect to return back to the environment that he was in that caused this to happen."
