To recognize this I made a presentation at our home game on Feb 1. We had a standing room only type crowd and we made the presentation at halftime of the boys game vs our rival Ascension Catholic. In that game we won 64-44 and J'Nyria added 27 points to her total of 1,111 career points.

J'Nyria Kelly has surpassed the 1000 point mark . . . as a freshman.

Passing this mark is pretty special here at St John but its rarely done this early in a career. Most of us don't do it until junior or senior year.

If I am not mistaken, Jean Delahaye holds the career mark at 2,161 career points. But she didn't pass the 1,000 mark until her 10th grade year.

So J'Nyria is definitely on pace to break the all time scoring record here at St John if she continues to work hard and stay healthy.

J'Nyria knows she has some parts of her game that she needs to work on and improve which she has the athletic ability and drive to do so. It is a challenge every day to keep her focused and working because she knows she is good.

My challenge to her is to not be the best at St John, but work to be the best in the state/country. If she can maintain that mentality the sky is the limited for her future in basketball. Basketball can definitely be her ticket to getting her college education paid for if she continues to work hard.

It will not be easy because every team we play defends her with their best player and sometimes two players. She rarely has a wide open shot so she has to fight for every point she scores.

God has blessed her with the athletic ability to succeed, but to succeed she has to develop the will to win and the work ethic to become the best! My job is to continue to push her to be better everyday!
