Masters of ceremonies John Morgan and Britni Landry welcomed members and guests.

The 50s decade was brought to life March 2 for Year LV of Le Krewe du Roi’s Mardi Gras Ball at the Carl F. Grant Civic Center.

King Roi LV Daniel Durand and Queen Roi LV Devin Catherine Durand, daughter of Daniel and Janee’ Durand reigned over “Grease: the Reunion” as Le Krewe du Roi presented its 55th Mardi Gras Ball Saturday night.

Masters of ceremonies John Morgan and Britni Landry welcomed members and guests. Mr. Morgan opened the tableau with the singing of the National Anthem and a moment of silence honoring those deceased, followed by the presentation of the returning 2018 Royal Court. Then together they introduced the maids, dukes, children, and King Roi LV and Queen Roi LV.

A pep rally kicked off the evening’s tableau featuring a performance by the MSA West competition cheer team, as well as children and grandchildren of the krewe.

Both Roidell High performances welcomed this year’s ball Captains Huey “Tugar” Martinez and his wife Tammy. Captains represented Coach Calhoun and Principal Magee from the original Rydell HIgh.

This year’s Captains awaited the arrival of the characters of Grease as they all gathered this night for a 40th class reunion.

Patty, Miss Kamryn Messina, and Tom, Timothy Fabre, were first to return to Roidell High, and were greeted through the doors of their high school gym as red and white streamers draped the ceiling replicating the gymnasium from prom night. Messina is the Daughter of Ms. Amanda Fee and Mr. Brandon Messina and the granddaughter of krewe member Mr. Hal Martin.

Beauty School Dropout Frenchie, Miss Lydia Richard, and Doody, Leon Guillory entered from the Frosty Palace Diner and Frenchie was serenaded by her guardian angel, which was performed by the Chase Tyler Band. Richard is the daughter of Ms. Alison Richard and Mr. David Richard and is the granddaughter of members Mr. and Mrs. Danny Williams.

Once Frenchie and the other girls snuck out of her window after their slumber party, Jan and Putzi, Miss Sydni Schnebelen and Landon Courtade, entered the reunion. Schnebelen is the daughter of members Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Schnebelen.

Portraying Marty and Sonny were Miss Katie Carville, daughter of members Mr. and Mrs. Brian Carville, and Mark Graves.

The party wouldn’t be complete without the return of the rivals of the T-Birds and Pink Ladies, Cha-Cha, Miss Victoria “Lillie” Bradford, and Scorpion member Leo, Richie Bolotte. Bradford is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bradford.

High school sweethearts Rizzo, Miss Madison Schnebelen, and Kinickie, Monty Migliacio were next to be introduced. Schnebelen is the daughter of members Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Schnebelen.

All Greasers gathered and waited at the carnival for the finale of the tableau, which began with a flashback performance of “You’re the One that I Want” by a young Danny and Sandy, Seth Landry and Dannie Clare Durand, as well as other children of the krewe that joined in to replicate one of the most memorable scenes from the classic. These finale children served as the royal attendants to the king and queen: Seth Landry, Dannie Clare Durand, Landon Martinez, Riley Martinez, Layla Brown, Danae Brown, Shelbi Landry, Lila Haydel, Camille Haydel, Maddox Ourso, and Marley Ourso.

Upon completion of the musical tribute, the royal couple, Danny, King Roi LV, Daniel Durand, and Sandy, Queen Roi LV, Miss Devin Durand, finally arrived in a car driven through the Drive-In movie screen and stopping at the carnival, where all their friends patiently awaited their arrival.

Following a royal toast and grand promenade, the Chase Tyler Band provided entertainment for the evening.

Children of the krewe appeared in different skits throughout the night, including Pep Rally Greasers, Slumber Party Darlings, Grease Lightning Crew, and the Flashback Finale Youngsters.
