The high total of coronavirus in Iberville Parish prompted Parish President J. Mitchell Ourso to follow suit with other areas on a curfew in hopes of curbing the spread.
The curfew, which began Friday, runs from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., and will continue until the scheduled end of the Gov. John Bel Edwards’s “Stay at Home” order on April 30.
Essential employees are exempt from the curfew.
Thus far, enforcement has not been a problem, Sheriff Brett Stassi said.
“We really haven’t had any issues so far,” he said. “People have mostly been good about staying home.”
The curfew has not yet led to a reduction in deputies on patrol throughout the parish, Stassi said.
Other cities and parishes have enacted curfews, including St. James Parish, the Vermillion Parish, Washington Parish and the Town of Grand Isle.
