PLAQUEMINE - The final day to apply for lottery entrance for new students at the Math, Science and Arts Academy - West and East schools in Iberville Parish is Jan. 13, 2014.

A lottery will be held on Feb. 4, 2014 at 6 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center located on the campus of MSA-West.

Students who filed applications and meet the minimum requirements will be selected in an open meeting using a computerized Web-based program that generates random numbers. The computer program will rank students randomly by grade.

Applications were mailed in December to all Iberville Parish residents. Students interested in applying may also get an application form from the offices at both schools.

The MSA curriculum offers innovative science, technology and performing and visual arts.

Once admitted, the programs require that students maintain a 2.75 grade point average. There is also a strict three strikes discipline policy.

"We encourage anyone interested in attending to apply or re-apply for admission," Iberville Parish School System Chief Academic Officer Elvis J. Cavalier said.

The West Academy is located on the E.J. Gay site in Plaquemine and MSA-East is located in a new school facility adjacent to the St. Gabriel Community Center.
