Plymouth Rock Baptist Church hosts MLK program Jan. 20

PLAQUEMINE - The Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration Program will be held on Monday, Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. at the Plymouth Rock Baptist Church of Plaquemine located at 58830 Iron Farm Road.

The speaker will be Dr. Adell Brown, Vice Chancellor for Research, Southern University.

Music will be provided by the Power Driven Choir.

The Davis-Williams Award will be presented to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to our community.

The program is sponsored by the Iberville Parish Ministers' Conference, Selectman Jimmie Randle, Councilman Howard Oubre, Women on The Move and the Tau Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

The 27th Annual Martin Luther King March and Program will also be held Saturday, Jan. 18 in Maringouin.

The march begins at 10 a.m. at Bayou Maringouin and Landry Street and ends at the Catholic Center. The program is scheduled for 10:40 a.m. at the center.

Refreshments will be served following the program and the event is sponsored by the Knights and Ladies of St. Peter Claver.

The keynote speaker is Joseph "Bo" Stewart, a native of Maringouin. Stewart was an executive officer of Kellogg Company for more than 20 years.
