PLAQUEMINE - The Arc - Iberville and West Baton Rouge will host a grand re-opening on Tuesday, Feb. 18 from 2 – 4 p.m. at 24615 J. Gerald Berret Blvd.

The Arc operates to serve individuals with disabilities to gain vocational and independent living skills.

The Iberville Parish Council completely renovated the building where The Arc is housed in 2013.

"It is a beautiful building and an exciting environment in which to work and learn," Arc Executive Director Dr. Elizabeth Fussell said. "We owe the Parish Council our gratitude for their continued support."

Fussell, a native of Pearl River, arrived in Plaquemine in Nov. 2013. She has spent the last 25 years in east Tennessee working in the field of employment for people with disabilities.

Fussell has an extensive background in best practices for community employment, self-determination/self-advocacy and postsecondary education for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

"I am excited to join The Arc - Iberville and West Baton Rouge," Fussell said. "The people are wonderful and eager to grow. I hope to establish greater involvement in the community. Please come by and get to know us."

In the next few months, Fussell will be asking community leaders and employers to join her in some planning.
