BATON ROUGE - Iberville Charter Academy, which opened enrollment as a brand new charter school Feb. 1 will change venues for its remaining information sessions.

Previously held at the public library, information sessions will now be held at the Best Western located at 23235 La. 1 in Plaquemine.  The sessions will be held on Thursday, Feb. 27 and Tuesday, March 11 at 5:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

The information sessions answer many of the questions parents have about charter schools in general and Iberville Charter Academy specifically.

Iberville Charter Academy is one of two charter schools that will open in the fall of 2014. It will house 434 students in the first year in a 36,773-square-foot facility.

Open enrollment is currently underway and parents can apply online at IbervilleCharter.org. The school is currently under construction.

Charter schools are tuition-free public schools that offer innovative instruction while meeting all state requirements. All students within certain designated boundaries are given equal access and if more students apply during open enrollment than there are seats available, a random lottery will be held in compliance with state regulations. All students throughout the state of Louisiana can apply to Iberville Charter.

“Parents in Iberville have been very excited to learn about this new option available for students,” said Richard Page, vice president of development at Charter Schools USA.
