Iberville 4-H attends “Greenhouse Adventures” Workshop
PLAQUEMINE – Iberville 4-H Club members from across the parish attended a “Greenhouse Adventures” Workshop on Feb. 17.
Participants learned about seed germination and the water cycle. 4-H’ers planted cucumber, banana pepper, corn, okra, and pole bean seeds in the greenhouse at the LSU AgCenter Extension
Service.
Club members planted their seedlings in the community garden boxes located at the LSU AgCenter Extension Service on March 14.
Participants planted pole beans along a bamboo trellis and decorated their spring garden with stepping stones that were decorated by local 4-H’ers.
They will harvest the produce from the community garden boxes during the summer months and use the fresh vegetables and herbs for 4-H cooking workshops.
Volunteers from the Tri-Parish Master Gardener Program donated their time and knowledge to lead the 4-H Gardening Workshops. Tri-Parish Master Gardener Susan Persilver led the workshops with assistance from Tri Parish Master Gardeners Becky Sue Bickham, Connie Hebert and Lorraine Hidalgo.
The Tri-Parish Master Gardeners serve Iberville, Pointe Coupee and West Baton Rouge parishes. They are part of the Louisiana Master Gardener Program, which is a service and educational activity offered by the LSU AgCenter.
The program is designed to recruit and train volunteers to help meet the educational needs of home gardeners while providing an enjoyable and worthwhile service experience for volunteers.
