PLAQUEMINE – The United States District Court recently granted a motion of partial summary judgment to the Iberville Parish School Board, Superintendent P. Edward Cancienne Jr. and Board President Melvin Lodge.

The motion stems from a lawsuit against the board filed by Maria Delouise. Delouise began her career with the board as a librarian in August 2006. In 2008, she was assigned to the position of assistant principal at East Iberville School where she was promoted acting principal.

Delouise claims she was later transferred to Plaquemine High School because of her race.

“They want a black principal,” the suit reads.

“The ruling dismisses most of the claims asserted by the plaintiff,” Cancienne said. “I am very happy with it and although the case is not over, I consider this to be a major victory.”
