Breaux Bridge man arrested for theft, murder

PLAQUEMINE – The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a St. Martin Parish man in the theft of an excavator from an environmental services company and the murder of an employee of the company.
Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Detectives began investigating the theft of an excavator at Dow Chemical in January. During the investigation, the body of Avery Hastings, a employee of the environmental company, was discovered in Rosedale.
Detectives identified Mark A. Roy, 44, 625 Christine Lane, Breaux Bridge, as a suspect in the theft and murder.
An arrest warrant was obtained and the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Department arrested Roy at his residence without incident as a fugitive from Iberville Parish.
Roy was booked into the Iberville Parish Jail and charged with second-degree murder and principal to felony theft.
