PLAQUEMINE - Residents will notice new signs being installed at the entrance of the city on La. Hwy. 1 South beginning in June.

The new welcome sign will replace the city’s existing entrance sign and is a combination of stucco and glass panels that is an improvement over the city’s present sign, officials say.

Landscaping will be added around the sign after it is completed.

The city is also installing a digital sign that will provide a way for the city and organizations to post information quickly and on an on-going basis.

The digital sign will be located where the city’s present medal structure is for banners.

“A digital sign has many uses  – to post emergency information, events, city announcements, and special announcements such as the return of local troops,” said Mayor Mark “Tony” Gulotta.

“This is the first digital sign. I also hope to get one on Belleview Road near Plaquemine City Park in the future.”

Installation of the signs should take about two months.
