BATON ROUGE - Governor Piyush “Bobby” Jindal announced he has signed SB 532 by Sen. Elbert Guillory, which will create separate court divisions to better support veterans in Louisiana.

“I am honored to sign this piece of legislation for the veterans who served our nation who may have cases pending in the judicial system,” Jindal said. “Often after arriving home from active service abroad, our veterans are left with health conditions or illnesses that can play a role in the commission of drug related crimes or other offenses.

“This legislation will help identify these veterans and connect them to rehabilitation and other services that are specialized for their needs.”

SB 532 will allow Louisiana courts to create separate court divisions to specifically serve the needs of veterans.

These divisions will provide veterans with more options to access the services they need after military service such as counseling and rehabilitation as well as helpful alternatives to Drug and DWI Courts.
