After 10 hard-fought years by the Iberville Parish Council, the Parish has been awarded two grants to upgrade boat launches in Bayou Pigeon and Bayou Sorrel.

The Parish Council started looking at ways to improve the landings in early 2002.

The two state grants totaling nearly $800,000 with provide additional boat slips, cleaning stations and restrooms to the Pigeon and Sorrel landings.

Parish Councilman, Pete Kelly from Bayou Sorrel, says, “We are so excited about the launches and we can’t wait to see the project get started.  From the renderings I’ve seen, the launches will be very nice with added access for handicapped which is important.  The best part is that the improved launches will stay public landings…free for all.”

Since the busy waterways are the main thoroughfare for fisherman and hunters, the improvements will decrease the time in takes to get in and out of the water.  With many residents making their living from the water, this will allow more time for them to work.   Additionally, the improvements with provide more parking and give citizens easier and more accessibility.
