Carriere was one of 57 candidates to sign up for 21 races. Six Iberville Parish School Board members are unopposed. The other 15 races will be on an October 2 ballot.

Fifty-seven contenders qualified in 21 races that will be on the October 2 open primary ballot, according to information from Clerk of Court J. G. “Bubbie” Dupont Jr.'s Office.

The most crowded race on the ballot will be in White Castle mayor's race. Incumbent Maurice “Big Moe” Brown, indicted by a federal grand jury last week, drew three opponents – former alderman Ernest J. “Bay Boy” Allen Sr., perennial candidate Oneal “Elmo” Bosley, and incumbent Alderman and Mayor Pro-Tem Gerald Jermarr Williams. The other four incumbent aldermen qualified in a field of nine candidates seeking the five seats on the Board of Aldermen.

Police Chief Mario D. Brown, also indicted last week, will face two challengers, R. L. Downs Jr. and Michael Troy Robinson Sr.

All 15 incumbent Iberville Parish School Board members filed for re-election. Six were unopposed and have won a new term – Albertha Davis “Alp” Hasten of White Castle, and Glyna M. Kelley, Paul B. Distefano, Michael “Chief” Barbee, Dorothy R. Sansoni and Brian S. Willis, all of Plaquemine. The nine others face opposition.

Incumbent Maringouin Mayor John F. Overton faces opposition Alderman Samuel C. “Sammy” Collura. Three of the four other aldermen filed for re-election in a field of 11 candidates for the Board of Aldermen. Alderman Cherise Dupree Gougisha did not file for re-election.

Incumbent Maringouin Police Chief John E. Simien faces a rematch with former chief Hosea K. Anderson. Simien won the last race, four years ago, by three votes.
