Early voting in the October 2 primary elections for Iberville Parish School Board and White Castle and Maringouin municipal offices opens Saturday at the Iberville Registrar of Voters Office on the second floor of the Courthouse.

Voting will be from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the opening day, and for the same hours from Monday, September 20 through Saturday, September 25.

Nine of the 15 incumbent school board members are in contested elections.

White Castle voters will elect a new mayor, now that incumbent Maurice “Big Moe” Brown has been ousted from the ballot for failure to pay a fine for a state ethics violation. His brother, Police Chief Mario Brown, under federal indictment, is facing two challengers, and nine candidates are competing for five seats on the Board of Aldermen.

In Maringouin, both the mayor's and the police chief's races are contested, and 10 candidates are vying for the five Board of Aldermen seats.
