Icy rain bypasses Iberville Parish

A weather system carrying freezing rain for the most part went north and spared Iberville Parish, Emergency Preparedness Director Laurie Doiron said Friday.

“Most of it went just north of us,” the director said. “...The worst was the high-rise on Whiskey Bay,” 

I-10 over Whiskey Bay, a raised highway was closed to traffic until mid-morning because the potential for the treacherous road condition called “black ice.” I-10 at Ramah was the scene of a multiple truck pile-up and a fatality.

Crews sanded an icy bridge at Grosse Tete, but otherwise there was no accumulation on parish roadways, Doiron said.

Another round of icy weather is in the offing for Wednesday (February 9), she said.

“We're hoping for flurries instead of ice,” Doiron said.
