Funnel cloud spotted near Grosse Tete
A North End firefighter reported seeing a funnel cloud passing Tuesday near Grosse Tete and heading toward the Brusly area, Emergency Preparedness Director Laurie Doiron.
“As far as we know, it didn't touch down,” she said.
Doiron said her office has only two reports of damages, both in the Bayou Goula area, during the massive system of storms that has passed through the area since Saturday.
One resident reported roof damage to a house on La. 405 on Saturday, and another reported roof damage to a house on H. H. Lewis Road on Monday.
Doiron said her office recorded rainfall at 1.44 inches at their gauge near the Courthouse on Saturday, the heaviest day of local rainfall, but there have been no reports of further damages or flooding.
The parish was under a severe weather watch again Wednesday morning, but that also seems to have passed the parish by, the director said, noting “bad lightning” around 4 a.m.
“We're skirting it,” Doiron said.
